MEDALS were awarded Saturday to government troopers who successfully overran a training camp of the New People’s Army in Lacub, Abra recently.
Leading them for the Gold Cross Medal were to 2Lt. Joe Mari Landicho, the head of the operating troops, and Capt. Deo Martinez, the Operations Officer, both officers of the 41st Infantry Battalion.
The battilon commander, Lt. Col. Rogelio Noora, was conferred with the Bronze Cross Medal.
While the Wounded Personnel Medal were given to Cpl. Gilbert Baawa, PFC James Erickson Danao and Randy Saayan. The rest of the combatants received the Military Merit Medals.
On September 4, Landicho and Martinez led the charge against the NPA rebels in Barangay Guiguinabang. Noora said the camp served as the training ground of the NPA in Abra.
The firefight and succeeding pursuit operations killed at least eight rebels including their top commander. The soldiers also recovered 15 firearms.
Two soldiers a civilian perished during the second day of operation when a group of rebels ambushed a group of soldiers and civilians in Barangay Poblacion while on their way to bring to the funeral homes a recovered dead body of a rebel.
