The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently chose G Suite as the new backbone of the nation’s Government Email System (GovMail). Using Hangouts Chat and Meet, public sector staff can communicate and collaborate reliably even when they are not in the same location due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
This means that government offices on GovMail accounts will be able to use the following advanced features of G Suite for Enterprise at no cost until July 1, 2020:
Conducting online meetings for up to 250 participants per call
Enabling live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers
Recording and saving meetings on Google Drive
“The DICT has been continuously seeking ways to improve its programs and services to help the working public go about with their functions through the use of information and communication technologies amid the enhanced community quarantine. The migration to cloud based GovMail which started last year proves to be more useful especially for remote government operations. Coordination between government agencies are more organized resulting in faster responses benefitting their constituents,” said DICT Assistant Secretary for Digital Philippines Emmanuel Rey Caintic as seen on DICT’s site.
“As the pandemic continues to challenge us, we are exploring more ways on how we can help our partners, users, the community, and the government using our expertise. We hope that through our tools like G Suite for Enterprise and its features being made available, we are able to support public sector staff and their stakeholders so they can collaborate and stay connected during the quarantine as needed,” said Bernadette Nacario, Country Director, Google Philippines.
In 2019, the DICT partnered with Kollab Guru Group, Inc. in migrating the GovMail System to G Suite, Google’s suite of cloud computing, productivity, and collaboration tools. This project allowed the department to experience a more useful, reliable, and secure communication platform available 24/7.
