MetroTurf lures racing fans

One place that is getting to be a popular sporting destination in the Calabarzon area is the MetroTurf, which boasts of the finest racing facilities in the country (and also in Asia). It opened its doors to the public just a month ago in Malvar, Batangas. And its 45 minutes away from Manila, thats why a lot of racing fans from the Big City are always seen mingling with the crowd from the nearby provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon every racing day. MetroTurf is the countrys third and newest racetrack that hosts exciting races twice a week in its 45-hectare complex, complete with all the latest racing facilities. The grandstand, which can handle more than 3,000 racing fans and houses several modern betting facilities provided by United Tote (the biggest in the gaming industry worldwide), is right beside the elegant and very cozy Clubhouse, which is reserved not only for horseowners but also for their guests. The racetrack, built and designed by noted Singaporean K. K. Kumar, is now the favorite of local horsemen horseowners, trainers, and jockeys alike since it is well-maintained and conformed to world-standard. It has three chutes (outside portions of the racetrack where the starting gates are being placed so that horses go on a straight path before going to the bended portion) that suit up to international racing standards. Additional stables are in the drawing board. Near the racetrack is the stable area, which can accommodate over 600 horses and complete with all the amenities both for the horses and their respective grooms. The outpouring of people coming from Manila and in other nearby provinces of Batangas is really very satisfying! We really appreciate their attendance every racing day and it really goes to show that Metro Turf is getting to be the real sporting venue in this part of Calabarzon, said Dr. Norberto Quisumbing Jr., the chairman and president of Metro Manila Turf Club, the mother company of MetroTurf. Dr. Quisumbing said that aside from the top-class racing facilities, various recreational, sports and real estate developments will rise in the complex within the next several months. The racing facilities are just the first phase of the project that aims to develop this complex as the future venue for all major occasions. We have already approved the implementation of several projects within the complex that will surely attract more people in going to the MetroTurf, he added. The MetroTurf is just a 45-minute drive from Manila through the South Luzon Expressway and directly through the Star Tollway. After coming out of the second exit in Malvar, various directional signs lead the visitors directly to the main entrance at JP Laurel Highway, which is right in front of the Malvar municipal hall.
