Lino Cayetano on BGC issue

IsahRed-150x81We had lunch recently with newly elected Congressman Lino Cayetano who is representing the second district of Taguig City that also comprise the now contested Bonifacio Global City. Cayetano said, “It is irresponsible for Makati to issue statements of ‘immediate takeover’ as they start talking about “revenue” they will earn from Fort. This is premature and irresponsible.” “It is very clear that pending lapse of the appeal period, status quo remains. Fort Bonifacio is part of Taguig City,” he added. 2013_aug26_show1As we all know, the Court of Appeals (CA) Sixth Division ordered Taguig “to immediately cease and desist from exercising jurisdiction” within the 729.15 hectares, which covers the BGC, enlisted men’s barrios (Embo) barangays and Inner Fort barangays (Post Proper Northside and Post Proper Southside). Cayetano said a legal team will file a motion for reconsideration before the CA or take its appeal to the Supreme Court. Cayetano, a former barangay captain of Fort Bonifacio, said he would be representing both Makati and Taguig in the House of Representatives in the event that the courts decide with finality in favor of Makati. “If the time ever comes that courts decide with finality that Fort is Makati then I will be congressman of Makati and Taguig since my district will then cover one barangay of Makati and 12 barangays of Taguig,” he said.
