The Customs district in Cagayan de Oro posted a surplus of P116 million in January, collecting P559.2 million, or up by 26 percent based on its P443.1 million collection goal for the month.
Newly appointed CDO collector lawyer Ma. Lourdes Mangaoang said the collection performance was P248.7 million or 80 percent higher than the revenues generated during the same period last year.
She added the district failed to meet its target in January 2012 as did almost all customs zones since the first month of the year was normally a lean month for imports.
“This welcome spike in revenue inspires confidence that our district is on track to meet our 2013 collection target of nearly P5.65 billion,” said Mangaoang.
The Mindanao Container Terminal-Subport (MCT-SP) one of the three sub-ports under the jurisdiction of Mangaoang, was the best revenue earner with income totaling P494.7 million. The sub-port of Iligan in Lanao del Norte contributed P17.48 million while the Sub-Port of Ozamis in Misamis Oriental chipped in P1.2 million.
