‘Diary Ng Panget The Movie’ for daydreaming teens

By MST Entertainment | Mar. 29, 2014 at 06:00pm

IT IS finally here!

The online phenomenon, Diary Ng Panget, which scored 12 million hits on the free literature website Wattpad and sold no. 1 in the local bestseller list for weeks, is now a film.

Yassi Pressman with Diary Ng Panget co-stars Andre
Paras, Nadine Lustre and James Reid

The highly anticipated big screen adaptation is one of Viva Films’ biggest projects for 2014. It launches four fresh faces to full stardom: Nadine Lustre, Andre Paras, Yassi Pressman and James Reid under the able direction of Andoy Ranay from a script by award-winning Mel del Rosario.

Nadine is a former Pop Girls member, Andre and Yassi are two of the newest MTV  Pinoy VJs while James is the big winner of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010.

Diary Ng Panget breathes life to bestselling author Denny’s characters Rhea Eya Rodriguez, Chad Jimenez, Cross Sandford and Lorraine/Lory Keet at Willford Academy. The teen romance-comedy, touted to be this year’s biggest youth-oriented movie, tells of the colorful tale of Eya (Nadine), a plain-looking, clumsy but hard working girl with an extraordinary character.

Eya earns a scholarship to the topnotch Willford Academy, a school for beautiful, smart but mostly snobbish students. Life at Willford is nothing but an uphill climb for this female lead as she works as part-time food assistant to support herself through school. This is compounded by her miserable life as personal aide to multi-millionaire businessman Mr. Sandford’s only son, Cross (James).

Cross is the most popular guy at Willford Academy. He is the student council president, star athlete and commercial model. Eya’s ward is nothing but disrespectful and arrogant. He even nicknames her “Panget” and dumps seemingly endless tasks on her. But Eya’s determination, wit and resourcefulness put her at par with her privileged torturer. And just like that, Cross has met his match.

In school, Eya makes friends with Lorraine/Lory (Yassi), a beautiful, down-to-earth British girl who turns out to be secretly in love with Cross since childhood. Eya also meets Chad (Andre), a handsome and sensitive boy, almost as popular as Cross in school. Chad is Cross’ complete opposite: He is sweet, thoughtful and doesn’t seem to judge Eya by her looks. Eya, thus, develops her first real crush on Chad.

In one of his most devious plots, Cross makes Eya the most hated girl in school by spreading the rumor that she is his girlfriend. Chad, meanwhile, confides that he is madly in love with Lori and asks Eya to help him profess his love for her. Suddenly, Eya is caught in trie middle of the complicated love triangle between Lori-Cross and Chad- Lory. Will she succeed in turning either pair into reality or will she end up joining the fray and find love of her own?

Find out when Diary Ng Panget opens April 2 in theaters nationwide.

Meanwhile, adding to the movie’s youthful groove is the Diary Ng Panget original soundtrack album, which will be out this month. It carries the love theme, “No Erase,” by James and Nadine, “Paliguy-Ligoy” by Nadine and another duet, “Di Ko Alam” by Andre and Yassi.

The Diary Ng Panget OST album is co-produced by Flipmusic Records and Viva Records.
