Kapuso turning Kapatid?

By Isah V. Red | Jan. 09, 2014 at 06:01pm

RUMORS have been persistent in the last couple of weeks about Manny V. Pangilinan, top gun of PLDT and TV5 acquiring majority of shares of the Kapuso network. Some eager columnists even said that if so Kris Aquino might just be the new big name to reckon with in the network.

Much to the disappointment of those itching to see the Kapuso network morph into a relative of the Kapatid network, both PLDT and GMA Network denied recently in a published report (not in the Manila StandardTODAY) that there had been negotiations and that it was a done deal.

A director working at GMA Network replied in one of his posts on Facebook that “they could be Smart GMA.”

German Moreno who is consultant at GMA Artist Center said during a brief chat recently that he hasn’t heard anything about it so far. “I am sure if there’s truth to it, FLG (that’s Atty. Felipe L. Gozon) would call for a general assembly (of staff) to announce it. But so far, there’s nothing. Let’s wait till they return from vacation,” he added.

Gozon, in previews talks, said that the network is not really for sale, but if there is any party, and that includes PLDT, who can offer him and the other shareholders the right price, he could consider selling out to that entity. Thus far, he added, there’s not one who has been able to offer the kind of amount that will make us think and say, “Yes, that’s the amount we want.”

“I’d like to leave GMA Network to someone who can continue steering the network to the goals we have set, and also I’d like to enjoy my retirement if ever. And with the right price at which the network would be acquired, that may be possible,” he said.

In the meantime, the TV networks watchers can keep their fingers tightly crossed that PLDT or Manny V. Pangilinan would have that kind of amount the GMA Network top honcho is asking for so that the Kapuso network would finally dissolve and become part of Kapatid.

While it’s not, just watch the shows of the network and perhaps you’d discern clues as to how it’s going to be in the months ahead.
