Indon firm qualifies for chopper supply deal

By Florante S. Solmerin | Sep. 26, 2013 at 12:01am
The Bids and Awards Committee of the Department of National Defense declared on Wednesday an Indonesian aircraft manufacturer (Persero) as  the qualified bidder for the supply of two units of fixed-wing planes valued at P800 million for the Philippine Air Force, sources said.

The bidder, PT Dirgantara Indonesia/Indonesian Aerospace (Iae), offered P812,550,000 to supply medium-lift transport planes, sources said.

The bidding began at 10 a.m. and ended 12 noon at the DND building based in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

The first source said there were three companies that had bought bid documents, but only PT Dirgantara and Sikorsky Aircraft made their offers.

During the opening of the bid documents, PT Dirgantara emerged as the lone qualified bidder.

The second source said Sikorsky offered C27 Skytruck while PT Dirgantara offered NC21-200 to 400 Aviocar.

“Assistant Secretary Patrick Velez has given the Technical Working Group [of PAF] 7 days to evaluate [PT Dirgantara’s] bid,”  the source said.

Undersecretary Fernado Manalo confirmed  the conduct of the bidding but declined to elaborate.

“The bid is being evaluated,” he said in a text message.

“NC-212-200 is a light transport designed to operate in areas lacking in infrastructure and unpaved runways. It has a high-wing configuration and fixed landing gear, is fitted with twin turboprop engines, and has excellent Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) capability,” according to PT Dirgantara’s post on its official website.

The company describes itself as “one of the indigenous aerospace company in Asia with core competence in aircraft design, development and manufacturing of civilian and military regional commuter aircraft.”
