More tuneup games for Gilas set

By Jeric Lopez | Jul. 05, 2013 at 12:01am
To further help the cause of Smart Gilas Pilipinas in its preparations for the FIBA-Asia Championship, the Philippine Basketball Association will once again conduct tune-up games for the team late this month.

In partnership with MyPhone, the league will conduct the Gilas-PBA exhibition games on July 24 to 26.

The games are part of the Nationals’ training for the coming  tournament the country is hosting on Aug. 1 to 11.

Smart Gilas Pilipinas will duke it out one more time against a PBA Selection on July 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena before playing the Kazakhstan national team two days later at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Both games are slated at 7 p.m.

“Again, we like to extend our hands to our National team and help them prepare harder for the FIBA Championship. These games will help since they need more tune-up games to toughen them up,’’ said PBA commissioner Chito Salud.

Leading the PBA Stars against the Nationals are Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player candidate Calvin Abueva and Petron Blaze star Arwind Santos.

Along with them are Chris Ellis of Barangay Ginebra, Jvee Casio and Cyrus Baguio also of the Aces, Alex Cabagnot of the Boosters as well, San Mig Coffee’s Peter June Simon, Mark Barroca and Joe Devance, Rain or Shine’s duo of Paul Lee and Chris Tiu, Air21’s KG Canaleta and GlobalPort’s new acquisition Jay Washington.
