Tacloban chides Aquino, Bem Noel

By Marvin T. Modelo | May. 13, 2013 at 12:01am
Tacloban City — Residents of this city decried the statement of Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino that the city is languishing in poverty since the Romualdez’s took hold of its leadership.

Angry callers flooded the airwaves of local radio station DYBR and TV station PRTV 12 and chastised PNoy for allowing himself to be manipulated by out-going An Waray Partylist Rep. Florencio “Bem”  Noel, who is challenging Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

PNoy, in his recorded endorsement of Noel, said that Tacloban City has not improved and the residents became poorer since the term of Romualdez.

“Papayag ba kayong magpatuloy ang kahirapan sa inyong lungsod o pipiliin ba ninyong tumahak sa tuwid na daan at pagpunla ng pag-asa at kaunlaran ha buong Tacloban? Kayo napo ang humusga. Sa tagal ng paghahari ng isang pamilya sa lungsod may nakamit ba kayong kaunlaran?” PNoy said.

PNoy added that Tacloban need a change of leadership and endorsed the candidacy of the out-going congressman.

One lady caller of DYBR said that the statement of PNoy demean not Mayor Romualdez but the people of Tacloban City as he portrayed them as  impoverished, which is far from the truth.
