Sarangani receives award for education

By MST News | Apr. 16, 2013 at 12:02am
Sarangani Province is this year’s Galing Pook awardee for its Quality Education for Sarangani Today or QUEST program, which strives to improve the quality of education in the province and the access to it by the young and their educators.

Sarangani Governor Miguel Domingues received the award.

Sagittarius Mines Inc. joined the governor  in accepting the award as the mining firm has been  supporting this program for the past three years. SMI has provided financial and technical support to the program.

President Benigno Aquino confers the Galing Pook award to the local government units implementing innovative services and practices.

The winning programs become models of good governance and demonstrate the local government units’ partnerships with their communities and the business sector in finding innovative solutions to common problems.

“The support of [the Education Department’s] teachers, QUEST staff and other stakeholders helped the province win this year’s  Galing Pook Award,” Dominguez said.

Program QUEST manager Annalie Edday acknowledged Sagittarius Mines’ contributions to the program.

“SMI not only pours in funding but also actively participates in visioning, planning, implementing and evaluating the programs to address the problems that occur,” Edday said.

Most recently, SMI supported the construction of six class dorms, the production of workbooks, and the development of a five-year plan for primary education in the province.
