“We can’t do anything if people of Quezon want us.”
This was the statement of House Minority Leader and Rep. Danilo Suarez on President Aquino’s criticism against him and his family for lording it over the third district of Quezon province for several years now while serving only their personal interests.
“The fact that we always get elected only shows that the people of Quezon want us,” Suarez told the Manila Standard.
“I think there’s should be no question about it, we get elected by the people,” Suarez added.
Suarez, a known ally of the Arroyos, became the latest victim of Mr. Aquino’s public criticisms against opponents of local candidates of the Liberal Party way ahead of the March 29 local campaign period.
Suarez, who is also in his third term as congressman for the third district of Quezon, is fielding his wife, Aleta, to replace him while his son David is seeking re-election as Quezon governor.
President Aquino, in his speech during a campaign sortie in Catanauan, Quezon Monday, blasted the Suarez’s clan: “I heard the third district of Quezon is the bailiwick of one family. But while they have been playing Trip to Jerusalem in passing their positions from one family member to another, it is clear that they are the only ones who benefited, while their constituents were left hanging.”
