Petronas drag race goes to Batangas

THE country’s most talented dragsters bring the battle for speed and supremacy to a higher competitive level as they head to Batangas this Saturday for the launching of the 2013 Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

The number of participants is expected to exceed the 145 competing drivers that showed up in the Clark kickoff with Batangas-based seasoned drag racers joining the hunt for the titles at stake in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petronas, Yokohama, GT Radials, M&H Tires and media partner Racing Beat at Wave 89.1.

BRC pioneers Autokeeps, Just Racing, Sherwin Esguerra’s SE Racing, Jywell Comet, Team Batangas, Lowtoys, Ger&Friends and Montavita, among others, have lined up their best drivers who will make the title quest in the Quick 8, M&H Pro, Yokohama Expert, Sportsman, and the GT Radial Hotstreet classes even more intense.

While defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing only salvaged the M&H Super Pro title in Clark, his perennial title rival and former champion Martin Manalo seeks to make the Southern Series kickoff a huge hometown domination for the Batangueños, together with his RSL Motorsports teammates.

Spectators expect another exciting clash of nerves and horsepower between Tiu and Manalo for the premier Quick 8 and M&H Pro crowns. But what the crowd is raring to witness is a driver who will soar beyond his top speed to shatter Jonathan Tiu’s long existing BRC Drag Strip quarter-mile record of 9.903 seconds.
