The Bureau of Customs is awaiting a final decision from the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of Executive Order 156 banning the importation of used vehicles at the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority.
“We will seek a certificate of finality on the Supreme Court ruling on EO 156 and we will enforce whatever provisions and implementing rules the EO provides,†Customs commissioner Ruffy Biazon said Thursday.
“I have instructed all BoC officials assigned at the Ceza not to process any vehicle importation pending the clarification on the finality of the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the constitutionality of EO 156,†Biazon said.
EO 156 did not include the ban on trucks, buses and special purpose vehicles.
Biazon said while Ceza locators were allowed to import vehicles for their use within the freeport zone, they could not be driven out of the economic zone.
