By MST News | Feb. 11, 2013 at 12:01am
More than 30 volunteers from Bayan went to Pasong Tamo Elementary School in Tandang Sora, Quezon City last May 26 to help clean, repair and prepare its facilities for the coming school year.

Brigada Eskwela is DepEd's multisectoral program where the government and private sector partner to repair and spruce up the 45,000 public With Bayan's re-participation in the Brigada movement, volunteers quickly responded as soon as the call for volunteers was announced.

Some of those who participated were the same people who volunteered in the past few years Bayan joined the Brigada Eskwela movement. Most of the volunteers joined because they were once products of schools in time for the school opening. Now on its ninth year, Brigada Eskwela had businessmen, local officials, students and teachers joining forces to make sure the classrooms are clean, desks/armchairs are sturdy for the pupils.

The activity is sort of a homecoming for Bayan after missing Brigada Eskwela for a couple of years. With Bayan's re-participation in the Brigada movement, volunteers quickly responded as soon as the call for volunteers was announced.

Some of those who participated were the same people who volunteered in the past few years Bayan joined the Brigada Eskwela movement. Most of the volunteers joined because they were once products of the public school system and want to give back whatever benefits they've enjoyed earlier.

Bayan donated paints, tools for repairing and other cleaning implements, while volunteers donated their time cleaning and beautifying the school's comfort rooms, classrooms, walls and corridors. Volunteers also helped in repairing school chairs.

Bayan's participation also covered the regions, with employee volunteers from Bicol, Tacloban and Davao holding their own Brigada Eskwela in public schools within their areas.

This is part of Bayan's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, where Bayan gives back a portion of its resources to the communities where the company exists.
