Bong Revilla makes ‘Indio’ a must-watch weeknights

By MST News | Feb. 04, 2013 at 06:02pm
“IT gives us goosebumps!” “The transition from scene to scene is seamless!” “Startling!”

These are just some of what those who had seen the first week Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. appeared as the adult Simeon/Malaya. Previously, young actor Alden Richards played the role, and this was what the audience was referring to when they talk of “transition.”

In the first week, Revilla, Jr. (who is also a member of the Philippine Senate and might be the standard bearer of Lakas in 2016) showed he really deserves to be cast in this epic drama series.

In the series, the senator/actor known more for his roles in action movies, displayed another facet of his talent. While he is definitely adept at action sequences that are plenty in this series, the actor also shows his skill in drama. He isn’t too far behind in scenes that have actors like Michael de Mesa, Chinggoy Alonso, Ronnie Lazaro, and Jackielou Blanco. In fact, viewers can easily discern each of the characters they are watching due to the clear portrayal by the actors who fittingly tint their roles with the proper tones, and Revilla, though not formally schooled in acting, displays keen understanding of characterization.

Now, those who doubt Revilla, Jr. as an actor should start following Indio as it is by now the must-watch series on local TV.

It will be interesting to watch how Simeon’s compassion for Esperanza (Jennylyn Mercado), the daughter of Juancho Sanreal (De Mesa) and the native woman Maria (Wynwyn Marquez) borne after he raped her, will lead to a more complicated emotional connection between the two. What happens to Simeon’s love for Rosa (Maxene Magalona), his childhood friend and sweetheart?

This is what fans of the senator will be waiting in the coming weeks, Monday to Friday on GMA 7, after 24 Oras.
