Mazda-Berjaya CEO Steven Tan ushers in a new era for the Mazda brand in the country

Mazda has moved out of the shadows of the Blue Oval and officially announced the start of business operations in the country last week, following a formal signing ceremony held last September between Mazda Motor Corporation and Berjaya Auto Philippines Inc.

In attendance were executives from the Bermaz Motor International Limited led by its company Director Dato Francis Lee; Kiyoshi Fujiwara, Executive Officer of Mazda Corporation; Dato Ben Yeoh, Chairman and CEO of Bermaz Motors and Steven Tan, CEO of Mazda-Berjaya Auto Philippines. “Our success in Malaysia as Mazda distributor gave us the confidence and experience to push forward in terms of expanding into ASEAN. Our business in the region is diverse, and this latest Mazda distribution business continues to build on the tremendous synergy across the group of companies. We have a team here comprised of professionals with regional and local experience,” states Dato Francis Lee, Executive Director of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, following the announcement of Berjaya Auto Philippines appointment as the official Mazda distributor in the country.

Steven Tan, CEO of Berjaya Auto Philippines revealed that the re-launch of the Mazda brand in the country began as early as August last year, with the hiring, building and development of a business infrastructure and business plan. “We are all excited to get things started with the tremendous support from the dealer network and the entire Berjaya group,” adds Tan. Berjaya is starting the year with five to six dealerships, with some dealerships already in the construction phase. “There are still plenty of high potential locations across the country where Mazda can establish a presence and delight the target market with our stylish, high quality and fuel efficient vehicles,” says Tan.

Berjaya also revealed during the press launch that the first batch of cars are expected to arrive at the port by the end of the month and that parts delivery to its dealer network were already conducted early last week. “Today begins a new chapter for Mazda Philippines, and the most significant change for the brand is this-we are free to bring Mazda to its fullest potential,” Tan muses.
